Quoted from Laurence J. Peter, US educator & writer (1919 – 1988), one must wonder if he somehow anticipated our current healthcare system. We are living in an age where it is deemed ok to suggest prescription drugs on TV which can cure all of your woes, despite all of those nasty side effects, which don’t appear to be really significant anyway as the girl on TV is throwing rose petals during the part about the side affects. In light of this “better living through chemistry” attitude, we have never been more unhealthy as a country. Type II diabetes, solely a result of poor diet and lack of exercise, is now the norm. It will be endemic with the next generation of adults, many of who suffer with the affliction now as adolescents. Many of these same children who already suffer with ADD and other behavioral disorders attributable to a poor diet and lack of exercise, will be given drugs to quiet them down rather than treat the underlying problems. In my office, I see many, many adult patients, who come to see me for dizziness and imbalance, and on examination I find that they have been prescribed vestibular suppressant drugs, known to have no beneficial effect on balance or dizziness, and in fact, known to cause dizziness, lethargy, and imbalance. It seems that drugs have become the illogical alternative to taking care of ones self and that the latter has been ironically labeled "alternative therapy". Exactly when did this happen, and more importantly, how has this happened? Well, there is no question that by and large our culture is much more sedentary than any of our ancestors. And the TV, with its ability to brainwash anyone who sits before it that what you see must be true, after all, it’s on TV, right? At some point, logic must prevail if we are to avoid the many traps set to rob us of our health. And this logic must be from within ourselves. Individuals must learn to scrutinize decisions made regarding their health management, (which has never been easier since the Internet), and stand up to those that do not pass the common sense test.

Are most of our military ignorant by choice or is legitimate?
Against logic there is no armor like ignorance.
"Laurence J. Peter"
Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
Martin Luther King Jr.
It is impossible to make people understand their ignorance; for it requires knowledge to perceive it and therefore he that can perceive it hath it not.
Jeremy Taylor
I am a GOP just like a lot of you. The war may be a necessary thing. I am not ignorant to argue something I cannot intelligently form an opinion on. To do that you must know what the true Agenda is. If you think we publicize are political goals on TV please refer to line 1. What I do know is what we are not in Iraq for. We are not in Iraq because of terrorism and we are not in Iraq to free the Iraqi people.
We are in Iraq because Israel manipulated US … the biggest FARCE and the deadliest of them all.

You negate yourself by painting our military with such a broad swatch. May I remind you of your own citation:
Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.

You, sir, fit well in that category.
I do not, for a moment, support our Idiot King’s bogus war in Iraq, but blame for this fiasco should not be fixed on the military. The men and women who serve deserve more respect — much more than you have given them.

yeah…you’re GOP. you can put on a suit and say you are GOP, but you will still smell like marijuana and BO like the liberal you are. Also, you idiotic comments clearly give away your leftist leanings.

Saddam Hussein is out of power. The people there can vote, watch news, entertainment, politics, debate, art, theatre, and not the State run "Saddam Channels" which are totally about him only.
Medical care has improved considerably. So has the construction of schools.
Power now reaches most everyone in the country, and they no longer experience blackouts nightly, due to Saddam Hussein.
The list goes on of the freedoms these people have, that they did not have for 35 years under Saddam Hussein. So how do you figure they haven’t been freed?
And don’t say we’re there for oil. We have exported one drop! Fuel prices are higher here than ever.

Most of the members of our military join to defend our citizens and country. Most of them are also legitimately ignorant of several things, such as the potential/actual conflicts within their contract and oath (support the Constitution *AND* obey the orders of the President), and the fact that they may be used to ensure the profits of U.S. corporations and provide security for another country, as they are doing now. Most people are intentionally kept ignorant about these things.
Beyond that, they do not make political or diplomatic decisions, they are not informed as to how and why those decisions are made, and they really do not need to be informed about them. They must rely on the citizens of the U.S. to look out for their interests and ensure their appropriate use.

Our military isn’t ignorant. They know what is going on and many don’t agree with idiot Bush. Typical GOP you draw broad conclusions over things you know nothing about. I will say most Bush apologists though don’t view the war as you.
So right now your post looks like a quote bot out of control.

The military have a vital job to do and they’re committed to it. It’s life or death for them, and they see the advantages of killing or otherwise stopping violent individuals and groups. Their views are NOT from ignorance, but rather come from the specific job they have to do, and the things they see on the ground every day. And, they cannot let their morale go down by pondering the futility of their overall mission.
The real ignorance is with the policy makers in Washington, headed by the commander in chief George W. Bush. His only job in this war is to educate himself, see the big picture, and then make well considered choices. Obviously he fails at all of this, even though he’s been given the best of educations at the finest of schools, some good advice behind the scenes, and the best military in the world to command.

All you need to know, Mr. GOP, is that the terrorists would much rather we had any of the democrat candidates in the white house than another G.W. Bush.
I have never seen someone so proud of his lack of knowledge about a subject.

I don’t think the military is ignorant, far from it. The National Command Authority, I.e. the President and his advisors ahve shown a propensity for ignoring their military advisors. In spite of that interference, the military waged a brilliant campaign, AND WON IT!
The military is not, nor has it ever been, a police force. They are trained to kill, and to survive. To put them in the position they are in now, between countless sectarian groups fighting each other , and our military, is asking them to do a job they are not trained for.
There are rules for warfare, believe it or not, set out in the Geneva Conventions. Insurgent groups, however, don’t abide by those rules. Principle among them is the concept of uniformed combatants. When everyone in the population looks the same, but belongs to different sides, it kind of makes it impossible to fight any kind of war.
I recently spoke with a friend who returned from Iraq. He told me about a man he had met on many occasions and he became his friend. One day on patrol (they were protecting an oil pipeline) they came under fire from a group of insurgents. They were pinned down, and gunships were called in to attack the insurgents, many of whom were killed. When they examined the insurgent position he found the man he had known, AK in hand, dead.
It’s not black and white over there. Everything is the same shade of grey.
